How to get to Mijas from Malaga

Getting there by car

It’s not hard or time-consuming to get from Malaga to Mijas. If you have a car or you intend to rent one thing are easy for you. The distance is a bit more than 30 kilometres, depending on where you start your trip from in Malaga. That means that you’ll be in Mijas in around 30 minutes.

Getting there by train

If a car is not an option you can still go to Mijas pretty easily. Your best option is the train. Malaga holds one of the larger train stations in Spain, with regular connections to lots of cities on the high-speed AVE line. The main station in Malaga is Malaga central Alameda. To get by train to Mijas, you will need to catch the ‘Cercanias’ line (C1) that will take you as far as Fuengirola (around 10kms from Mijas) where you will be able to complete your journey by car rental, taxi or bus. This train leaves the main train station in Malaga (Centro – Alameda), passes by the airport, and takes you to Fuengirola.

You need to purchase your ticket for the train before you get on, at one of the ticket machines. They do give change. A ticket is about 1.75€ one way per person. Once you reached the Fuengirola train station, you have several options to continue your journey to Mijas. You can either take the bus or take a taxi. A taxi from the Fuengirola station to Mijas Costa will cost you between 17 and 22€ depending on where in Mijas Costa you need to go. As mentioned before in this article, you can purchase tickets to camp in the place of the festival. You have to ability to stay there for five nights, from August 31 to September 5. The price is €27.50 and you’ll get the full experience of the festival while you’re there.

If on the other hand you prefer to stay somewhere else in the city of Mijas you still have a lot of places to choose from. Of course the price of the accommodation is higher than the camping option as it ranges from 50 to 250 euros per night. The first one is the old village, a charming place with white buildings and an epic landscape a few hundred metres above sea level.It used to be a Moorish town, built around a castle of which a few fragments and the original street plan remain to this day.
