How to get to Mijas from Malaga
Getting there by car
It’s not hard or time-consuming to get from Malaga to Mijas. If you have a car or you intend to rent one thing are easy for you. The distance is a bit more than 30 kilometres, depending on where you start your trip from in Malaga. That means that you’ll be in Mijas in around 30 minutes.
Getting there by train
If a car is not an option you can still go to Mijas pretty easily. Your best option is the train. Malaga holds one of the larger train stations in Spain, with regular connections to lots of cities on the high-speed AVE line. The main station in Malaga is Malaga central Alameda. To get by train to Mijas, you will need to catch the ‘Cercanias’ line (C1) that will take you as far as Fuengirola (around 10kms from Mijas) where you will be able to complete your journey by car rental, taxi or bus. This train leaves the main train station in Malaga (Centro – Alameda), passes by the airport, and takes you to Fuengirola.
You need to purchase your ticket for the train before you get on, at one of the ticket machines. They do give change. A ticket is about 1.75€ one way per person. The trip to Fuengirola will take you about 35 minutes as it has many stops, also in other coastal towns. You can see the detailed timetable of train C1 from Centro Alameda to Fuengirola here.
Once you reached the Fuengirola train station, you have several options to continue your journey to Mijas. You can either take the bus or take a taxi. A taxi from the Fuengirola station to Mijas Costa will cost you between 17 and 22€ depending on where in Mijas Costa you need to go. Cala de Mijas Festival: Places to stay in Mijas
As mentioned before in this article, you can purchase tickets to camp in the place of the festival. You have to ability to stay there for five nights, from August 31 to September 5. The price is €27.50 and you’ll get the full experience of the festival while you’re there.
If on the other hand you prefer to stay somewhere else in the city of Mijas you still have a lot of places to choose from. Of course the price of the accommodation is higher than the camping option as it ranges from 50 to 250 euros per night. There are many more hotels and hostels there so it will be easier to find something cheap and nice at the same time.

Mijas is an amazing city, that is worth visiting even without the festival in mind.I t is a municipality that has two main parts. The first one is the old village, a charming place with white buildings and an epic landscape a few hundred metres above sea level.It used to be a Moorish town, built around a castle of which a few fragments and the original street plan remain to this day. The second is Mijas Costa, which is a bit more on the south, on the coast between Fuengirola and Marbella. This area may remind you of a modern Mediterranean getaway, with golf courses, sandy beaches and holiday communities with modern homes.

Sierra de Mijas
Mijas might seem like a small place but there’s surprisingly lots of things someone can do there. If you’re a fan of hiking we definitely recommend exploring the Sierra de Mijas. All you need is a comfortable pair of shoes, a hat, some water and some friends for the ride up the mountain. The mountain range stretches behind Costa del Sol with its highest peak being Pico de Mijas (1150 meters). From the top of Pico Mijas, you can seepast Gibraltar to Morocco’s Atlas Mountains. There are numerous trails starting behind Mijas Pueblo, which can be easily accessed by bus. There are trails of all different levels and distances from beginner and expert hikers as well.
Mijas Pueblo
Next up on your list should definitely be Mijas Pueblo. Mijas Pueblo is one of the most popular villages in Malaga . The picturesque village is located midways up the Mijas mountains and has astounding views of the countryside and the beaches of Fuengirola and Mijas Costa. Walk up to a small church above the village, where you get an amazing view of the white village from above. Mijas Pueblo is always full of life , live concerts and busy market stalls.
